IDFC FIRST Private Banking Recognizes Self-Made Millennials
IDFC FIRST Private Banking, in collaboration with Hurun India, has unveiled a landmark initiative - the ‘IDFC FIRST Private Hurun India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023’. This prestigious list honors the 200 most valuable companies established in India since the year 2000, highlighting the remarkable achievements of young, self-made entrepreneurs who have shaped the nation's business landscape.
The ranking emphasizes company value, determined by market capitalization for listed entities and valuations for non-listed ones. The cut-off date for valuation was September 30th, 2023. This distinction not only celebrates the trailblazing spirit of these entrepreneurs but also sheds light on the immense economic contribution they've made.
Entrepreneurial Powerhouse: A Glimpse into the List
The list features young disruptors like Neetish Sarda of Smartworks, Ritesh Agarwal of OYO, Ankush Sachdeva of ShareChat, and Hemesh Singh of Unacademy, showcasing the growing influence of millennials in the Indian business ecosystem. These individuals, alongside 196 others, have built companies that collectively hold a staggering value of INR 30 lakh crore, a figure that remarkably matches the GDP of Denmark.
This statistic underlines the profound impact these young entrepreneurs have had on the Indian economy. Their innovative ventures have not only created jobs and fostered growth but have also reshaped how people consume goods and services. From co-working spaces (Smartworks) and hospitality (OYO) to social media (ShareChat) and education technology (Unacademy), these companies cater to the evolving needs of a modern India.
Beyond Numbers: Recognizing Diversity and Global Ambitions
The ‘IDFC FIRST Private Hurun India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023’ goes beyond simply highlighting monetary value. It also underscores the rich diversity within the Indian entrepreneurial landscape. Around 25% of the companies featured are publicly listed, demonstrating a growing comfort with transparency and accountability. Additionally, a noteworthy 34% of these ventures have expanded their operations globally, signifying the international ambitions of Indian entrepreneurs.
The list further celebrates inclusivity by recognizing 20 women entrepreneurs and 32 founders born in the 1990s. This emphasis on diversity reflects the changing face of Indian business, where talent and vision are valued irrespective of gender or age. V. Vaidyanathan, of IDFC FIRST Bank himself, finds a well-deserved spot on this prestigious list.
